Dreaming of visiting Capri with its rugged coastline and picturesque beaches? I will show you how to make a day trip to Capri an unforgettable experience.
Getting to Capri
The only way to access the island of Capri is by ferry. Throughout the year, ferries depart from both Naples and Sorrento. From Naples, the trip to Capri takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. The trip from Sorrento is much quicker, approximately 25 minutes. During the summer, you can also reach Capri by ferries from Positano, Amalfi, Salerno, and Ischia.
Transportation in Capri
From March through November, non-resident cars are not permitted on the island. But not to worry. Capri has excellent public transportation. Once you arrive, you can take a taxi from the port to anywhere on the island. The taxis are plentiful and relatively inexpensive (about 20 Euros to reach the center of Capri). You can even ride in style in an open top convertible car or van like the ones pictured below!
Marina Grande Port
The Marina Grande Port is filled with tons of shops and restaurants, so you don’t have to go far once you arrive to find mouth watering food and plentiful shopping. If taking a tour is something that you desire to do, all of the tour companies are set up in the main port area. You can book a sailing tour or take a boat out to see the famous blue grotto.
Marina Grande Beach
From the turquoise waters, to the rock lined coast, the natural beauty of Capri’s beaches will leave you spellbound. If you only have a short time to spend in Capri, the Marina Grande Beach is only a short stroll from the pier.
Helpful Tip: Part of what makes Capri so stunning is its rugged coast. Make sure that you pack a good pair of water shoes. If you plan to swim, you will find sharp coral in the water and the beach is comprised of rocks, which are extremely difficult to walk on with flip flops.
Le Ondine Beach Club
If you plan to spend the day at Marina Grande Beach I recommend that you enter through the Le Ondine Beach Club. Have lunch or grab a drink and you will be able to access the club’s private portion of the beach which is much less crowded than the public beach.
A Perfect Day
We spent our day in Capri strolling through the colorful shops, having lunch at the Le Odine Beach Club, sunbathing on the rocks, and swimming in the aqua waters. It was magical! Although we wished that we could have stayed longer, it was definitely worth the trip to see this uniquely beautiful town.
Next stop, Mallorca, Spain where we spend the day cliff jumping!
