Wondering what a night out on Khao San Road is like? Khao San Road is like the Bourbon Street of Thailand, without the beads. It’s known as the backpacker party street with plenty of places that sell cheap drinks and have dance music.
Dave and I visited Khao San Road as our last stop on our first night in Bangkok and it didn’t disappoint. It was a night full of people watching, exotic foods, and dancing until the early morning.
People Watching
Halloween? Nope! We visited Khao San Road in March and saw people dressed up as religious figures, exotic animals, witches, you name it! I guess it’s a great way to get a second use out of your Halloween costume! And don’t worry, there were plenty of people who weren’t in costume, so don’t feel pressured to dress up.
Exotic Foods
Khao San Road was lined with food vendors selling everything from insects to alligators. And don’t worry, if you’re actually hungry and don’t prefer to eat bugs, they have chicken, pork, and fish too.
Dancing
Dave and I stopped in quite a few of the bars along Khao San Road. The One Streetbar was probably our favorite. It was an outdoor bar with three levels, a DJ, and decently priced drinks. The crowd here seemed to be a little older (late 20’s, 30’s and 40’s) vs. some of the other bars that seemed to cater to a younger crowd.
Although we were tired from our 20+ hour journey from Maryland to Bangkok, we managed to stay out until about 3am dancing on Khao San Road. That afternoon nap really came in handy! Now, a few hours of sleep, and then off to catch our morning flight to Koh Tao to get our scuba certification!
