If you love adventure, then don’t miss out on Coasteering in Mallorca.
Coasteering
Coasteering involves navigating your way through a natural obstacle course using a combination of cliff jumping, rock climbing, zip-lining, swimming and rappelling. It’s an adventure that you’ll never forget!
Jenna and I had been looking forward to this for weeks and were anxious to get started! We met our guide from the Experience Mallorca Sports & Adventure Company outside a small shopping plaza a short walk from the cruise terminal. They picked us up in a small van and we were off!
Coasteering Gear
Once we arrived at Portals Vells Beach, it was time to get ready for our adventure! We put on wet suits, water shoes, and helmets before heading down the trail to the cliffs.
The First Jump
Our first jump was only three meters (ten feet) which helped to calm our nerves. I guess the good news is, if you get nervous and pee yourself, you’re wearing a wet suit and jumping into the water, so no one will know!
Jumping Higher
The next jump was six meters (20 feet) and the final jump, which we did multiple times was twelve meters (39 feet). After we finally got up the nerve to complete our twelve meter jump, our guide pointed up to a 30 meter (98 feet) cliff and said that was where we were headed next. Luckily he was just joking! I love adventure, but I don’t think that I could have worked up the nerve to do that one!
Cliff Jumping Isn’t the Hard Part
Each time that you jump off the cliff, you had to swim around the rocks, fighting the waves, over to the inlet. Then you had to pull yourself out of the water and make the climb back up the cliff to your next jump. After the third jump, I started to volunteer to jump first. This wasn’t because I am especially brave. It was really so that I could take my time swimming back.
Zip Lining
After about an hour of cliff jumping, swimming, and learning to climb up and around the protruding rocks along the ocean cliff, we were given the chance to zip line over the water. Everyone that went before me made it look so easy. Some even did back flips into the water.
I’m not sure if it was the fact that I was so tired from everything we had done that day or that I forgot to dry my hands off, but I couldn’t seem to hold on to the zip line handle and slipped off a little too close to the cliff for my comfort. Luckily it was only my pride that was hurt!
Coasteering was a fantastic way to spend a day in Mallorca! I’m pretty sure that we burned a few thousand calories. Thank goodness that we had a four course Italian dinner planned for later that night! If you are planning to visit Mallorca, I highly recommend that you give Coasteering a try!
