Bangkok can be a little overwhelming for first time visitors. Taking a Tuk Tuk Tour was a great way to get acquainted with the city. We opted for the evening tour so that we could see the temples lit up at night. It’s a whole different experience at night then it is during the day time.

Local Market
Our first stop was a local market where our guide introduced us to some typical Thai street food snacks. We sampled Issan sausage which is a mixture of ground pork meat combined with garlic, sticky rice, salt, and pepper. We also tried Thai Roti which is bananas, cinnamon, and condensed milk.

At the market, our guide gave us an introduction to the Spirit Houses that are found throughout Southeast Asia. Spirit Houses are shrines to the spirits that protect the specific neighborhoods and/or places. People leave flowers, drinks, clothing, etc. to the spirits as daily offerings.

Temples
Viewing the temples at night is a much different vibe then seeing them during the day. During our tour, we visited Wat Pho, Wat Prayun, the Old Big Gun Museum (sometimes called Museum of the Lost Cannons), the City Pillar Shrine, the Giant Swing, as well as many other local temples.

Pad Thai Dinner
After zipping around town on our tuk tuk visiting all of the temples, our next stop was dinner at one of the most famous Pad Thai restaurants in Bangkok.

The line to the restaurant was wrapped around the block when we arrived, but luckily we go to jump to the front.

Flower Market
After dinner, our next stop was the Pak Khlong Talat Flower Market. The market gets really busy late at night and early in the morning as the various restaurants, hotels, and temples pick up their orders.

Flower Making & Dessert
The last stop on our tour was a flower folding lesson and dessert at the Market Experience located above the Pak Khlong Talat Flower Market.

They had a table all set up for us with plates of fresh mango and sticky rice along with an assortment of local ice cream as well as a selection of hot and cold herbal teas.

After dessert, our guide showed us one of the simplest methods of folding lotus flowers. People take these flowers to the temple to leave as offerings.

We had a great time on our night time Tuk Tuk tour of Bangkok. Next, we’re off to have drinks at one of Bangkok’s most famous roof top bars!
